Person of the Week - 12.29.09
Drake
I didn't know much about Aubrey Drake Graham when his mainstream career took off. My friends watched Degrassi; I never did. I started listening to his music back in June: Best I Ever Had and Young Money's Every Girl. It all sounded good, but I didn't distinguish him from others until my cousin had one of his mixtapes in her car. I listened to his songs: he rapped and he sang. It sounded cool. What really made him standout was how he tells stories through his raps. With every song comes a story. Now he has 2 Grammy Award Nominations.
If the stories he tells are real or not - I have no idea. Whether they're fictitious or true, Drake is a good storyteller. They're interesting and relatable. And that's what really drew me into to his music. Come Winter, Video Girl, Say What's Real, November 18th, Brand New, Sooner Than Later, and Congratulations are all stories where I hear situations, resolutions, and post-situation thoughts. It's cool being taken somewhere else when listening to a song. I think it shows music as true art.
If I ever meet Drake I'd want to know about the relationship with his uncle that he mentions in Fear, Sucessful, and another song that I can't remember lol.
And I have just one question: What happened on November 18th?

Every month, 11 other Maryland teens and I work to create a real, 30-minute, news show. It's a newscast FOR teens, reported BY teens. Now I won't be there because I'm out of town, but this party is going to be crazy. Partying on Christmas Day isn't my thing so much either haha. But for everybody who is going: They say get there early because the lines form quickly. DJ Kali and CJ Takeova will be in the building. Everybody have fun and Merry Christmas!!
Xmas Eve Treat
These are Christmas lights from a house in Orlando. A couple lives there and their huge yard allow for all the lights and the Winter Wonderland. I kid you not, there are exactly 100,000 lights at this site. They also said it took 6 men, 3 weeks of working full time, and $900 a MONTH. I have no idea who can and has the time to put all of this up but they did a beautiful job! Merry Christmas!!
Senate Passes Health Care Bill
I think it's great that the Health Care Bill has been passed. It's sad that those who are uninsured won't be guaranteed coverage until 2013/2014. They're the ones who need it the most. Anyway, Democrats are saying it's a step forward; a great improvement. Republicans are saying it's the government taking over. Government intervention is needed when people are DYING. That's for sure. Now the questions are how is the U.S. going to pay for it? What kind of coverage will abortion get? It's time to think about the future. Today is Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!!

Velvet Rope Teen Night
"Baltimore Teen Nights" are coming back. I won't be there tonight because I'm in Orlando. But if you can, head up to the Velvet Rope Club tonight. I hear it's going to be crazy. This is an alternative to "Takeova Entertainment", so we'll see what people think.
Zuri & Chase
My nephew and niece Chase and Zuri. They are so cute and they rep Baltimore Ravens!! Hehehe. They the little ones love the holidays. They wrecked havoc in my room when we had our early Christmas dinner with fam before we left for the south. By the way -- Ravens beat the Bears!!!
Some Sun
Sunny days in Florida...I've been happy to escape the snow, wind, and chill of Baltimore! Once the pool gets fixed, I'll be able to go swimming. Maybe I can even sneak in a Disney World visit.

Person of the Week: Wale
Pretty Girls and Chillin are good songs. All of my friends like Wale and also appreciate that he reps PG county and DC!! My mother's from DC and PG county isn't very far from where I live. Wale if you're out there, hat's off to you. My mom even likes the gogo swing because she is from DC.

He was really funny - I did a story on the Annual Turkey Bowl Football Game: Calvert Hall vs. Loyola Blakefield. It was really cold outside on that field, but it was good to hear what he had to say. Congrats to them on their win.
